The Hoppers were in the game all day against Katunga, but a lapse in concentration late in the third term proved too costly.
Coach Connor Hargreaves was on fire early with an evasive goal, but the locals regrouped before Taylor goaled, and Rennie trailed by 14 points at the first break.
Again, Hargreaves led by example with two more goals in the second term, while Will Taylor was solid in defence.
Woodhouse was silky around the middle, and Stokes kept defending strongly.
The Hoppers were only nine points down before Woodhouse and Bruce goaled, giving the Hoppers a slight lead, but after a four-minute brain fade the Swans kicked three late goals to lead by 14 points at the final break.
Hargreaves and Kirchen goaled in the final term, but Katunga were able to reply when needed to win by 13 points. Near but no cigar for the Hoppers, unfortunately.
Best players were Connor Hargreaves and Lewis Taylor. Awards: Mulwala Water Ski Club Ben Woodhouse, Premix King Will Taylor, Yarrawonga Hotel Kyle Stokes, Lake Mulwala Hotel Bailey Lewis.
Reserves
Rennie 4.5, 9.7, 13.7, 18.9 (117) defeated Katunga 2.1, 2.3, 3.5, 4.5 (29)
Goals: Jack Bassett 4, Hayden Long 4, Thomas Ryan 3, Jack Judd 3, Matt Nieuwenhout 1, Joseph Ferguson 1, Cooper Jones 1, Jarryd Wood.
The Hoppers’ twos finally put four quarters together and won by 88 points.
The impressive Rennie Reserves side won each term, led by Jack Bassett, who was above the level and dominated with four goals, while Longy with four, Ryan with three and Judd with three also carved up the forward line.
This complemented the work of Laffin, who had a gazillion touches, and the aerial work of Douglass and Jones on a tough marking day.
Matt Nieuwenhout repelled all the Swans’ forward thrusts, and skipper Ferg was indomitable. It was a good job by the boys, who will look to keep it going.
Awards: Premix King Jack Bassett, Yarrawonga Bakery Cooper Jones, Yarrawonga Hotel Shaun Laffin, Club Mulwala Ben Douglass, Lake Mulwala Hotel Jack Judd, Yarrawonga Skin Ski and Surf Matt Nieuwenhout.

Patty Lyons and Hemp were also strong contributors in a fair performance.

The Under 14 Hoppers were hot early with an eight-goal first term, then seemed to cruise in a 153-point win.
Rhodes was a vital factor in the win with his running and linking, Wally gave his players first use, and Ollie Legudi played a great game under each contest.
Up forward, Ednie was in form with nine goals, while Truey with six, Withers with five and Hemphill with two were the other multiple goalkickers. It was an OK effort, with a bigger challenge upcoming.

Under 11s
It was skittish weather, but there was no skittish teamwork as the Under 11 Hoppers were well led by sons of guns Lewis and Marett, who were stars, with Blomeley and Dowling kicking the ball well and Lyla-Rose showing her class and always looking to get teammates involved. It was another great job by the team.

Netball
A Grade
Rennie 33 defeated by Katunga 37.
In a fiercely contested match, Rennie took to the court against Katunga and showed plenty of determination from the opening whistle. Both teams fought hard for every possession, with the game remaining close throughout all four quarters.
Rennie worked tirelessly through the midcourt and applied strong defensive pressure, creating opportunities and forcing several turnovers. The team displayed great patience in attack, moved the ball well, and capitalised on scoring chances when they arose.
Despite a spirited performance and never giving up, Katunga were able to edge ahead in the final stages, with Rennie going down 33–37. While the result didn’t fall Rennie’s way, the effort, teamwork and resilience shown by the group was something to be proud of.
Congratulations to this week’s award recipients: Jennika Parker – RNC Incentive Award, Claire Dawson – Judd’s Yarrawonga Award, Mykie McBurnie – Lake Mulwala Hotel Award, Brylee McCarty – Yarrawonga Hotel Award.
B Grade
Rennie 38 defeated by Katunga 58.
Rennie played a great game and showed strong teamwork throughout. Everyone stayed positive and kept encouraging each other right to the final whistle. While Rennie ended up losing by 20 goals, the score didn’t reflect the effort, determination and quality of play the team brought to the court. There was a lot to be proud of.
C Grade
Rennie 31 defeated by Katunga 40.
The rain began as the match started, creating challenging conditions and resulting in a slower-paced game. Rennie’s focus was on maintaining possession, protecting the ball and building play through short, sharp passes. The defensive pressure from both teams ensured it was a highly contested and competitive match.
Lily Thompson stepped up from the Under 17s and showed great composure and determination throughout the game. A special mention goes to Rach Guppy, one of Rennie’s experienced defenders, who stepped into the goal circle and contributed valuable goals on the scoreboard.
Overall, it was a fantastic team effort against a strong opponent, with every player contributing and adapting well to the conditions.
Awards: Lake Mulwala Hotel Players’ Player Tess Bassett, Miss Dolly Millie Lourie, Yarrawonga Hotel Georgia Nicholson, North East Campers Nada Nolen.
C Reserve
Rennie 21 defeated by Katunga 32.
On Saturday, the Hoppers headed off to Katunga. It was wet, cold and definitely the kind of day that would have been better spent sitting around a fire.
With some last-minute changes and a few players unwell, Rennie was lucky enough to have Ruby join the side again for the day. Despite the disruptions and knowing they had a tough game ahead of them, the C Reserve girls didn’t let any of it get in their way and played their best game yet.
Kate came out of her shell and played with confidence like never before. She stayed positive, created space for Erin to move into the ring, and applied great pressure on Katunga’s defensive throw-ins.
Shez made sharp leads, fed beautifully into the ring, and found her first option consistently, which kept the ball flowing smoothly through Rennie’s attack end.
The superstar defensive duo, Fern and Truds, stuck to their opponents like glue. They worked tirelessly all game, contesting rebounds and winning the ball back to give the attackers every opportunity.
Ed stepped back into centre after a few consistent weeks in WA, and they don’t call her “Edos Speedos” for nothing. Ed always gives 100 per cent effort, every game and every quarter, and once again she delivered a strong, consistent performance.
Loz also rotated through WD and C, where she limited space beautifully for the Katunga girls. Her hands-over pressure was outstanding and made every pass a challenge.
Then, in the final quarter, little Jasi took the court in goals alongside Ez. What a quarter she played. She attacked every ball, held her position strongly, and confidently put up her shots.
Most importantly, the C Reserve girls played their best team game yet. The scoreboard certainly didn’t reflect what was happening on the court. The effort, determination, teamwork, encouragement and growth shown by every single player was something to be proud of. If the girls continue to play like that and trust each other, the wins will come.
The girls can keep their heads high, as Saturday was a huge step forward.
Under 17s
Rennie 77 defeated Katunga 16.
The Under 17 Hoppers completely dominated the Katunga Swans, not letting the rain put a damper on their day. There were many position rotations and changes in combinations, showing growth and depth in the team. Lilly Thompson worked tirelessly, showing great teamwork, drives and passes into space.
Defenders Liv Lewis and Jaz Johnson put into play what they have been working on at training, and it was great to see their hard work pay off. Demi Rhodes had a great game, providing many turnovers and opportunities for her team.
It was great to see the girls have fun and enjoy the game.
Under 15s
Rennie 32 defeated Katunga 14.
It was a great day on court for the Under 15s as Rennie took on Katunga, coming away with a convincing 32–14 victory. It was a fantastic team performance, with every player contributing to the win. Congratulations to the team on another excellent result.
Under 13s
Rennie 46 defeated Katunga 11.
Rennie’s Under 13s had a fantastic game this week against Katunga. The whole team worked brilliantly together, and everything they have been practising at training is starting to show on the court.
Harper and Lennie worked tirelessly together in defence, and their teamwork was a standout.
Both girls read the play exceptionally well, positioned themselves strongly and applied constant pressure throughout the game. Their ability to anticipate the ball allowed them to take multiple intercepts in defence.
Ruby Jones had another cracking game in centre. Her ability to read the play continues to be a standout. She was able to switch from attack to defence as needed down the court. She took multiple intercepts throughout the court and worked well to smoothly bring the ball down to the attackers.
Darcy and Koda worked exceptionally well together in the goal circle. Their movement around the ring was seamless, and they always knew exactly where each other were, creating space and working hard to gain front position. Their connection and awareness of one another allowed them to move the ball effectively in the circle.
The team has really started to gel, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence and understanding of each other grow each week. Rennie is very proud of their efforts and looks forward to seeing them continue to develop throughout the season.
Under 11s

The Emerald team had a fun game against Katunga. It was Katunga’s first real game of netball, and they were really trying hard. It was great to see the Rennie girls helping their opponents. The Emerald team has improved so much this year, and all of their practice is paying off.
