On a big day for the club on the football field, the Cats A-graders made their own contribution to the marquee weekend, scoring their first win of the season in an almighty battle with Leitchville-Gunbower.
LBU had the best of the first quarter, taking a 16-13 lead into the first break, but the Bombers responded well in the second, levelling the scores at 29 by half-time.
Both teams had their chances to claim it in the second half, but it was the Cats who held their nerve and surged to the win, 56-52.
The win moves LBU up into seventh spot, now 1-4, while Leitchville-Gunbower is one place higher at 1-1-2.
Colbinabbin vs Heathcote
In a huge form mismatch, unbeaten ladder-leader Colbinabbin battled lowly Heathcote, the Grasshoppers expectedly cruising to victory 87-24.
Colbo broke the Saints’ spirits early with a 22-7 first quarter and the victory procession continued from there as the host rampaged to a big win.
The Hoppers improve to a perfect 5-0 with the win, while Heathcote declines to 1-3.
Elmore vs Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant rolled to a huge win this week.
In a similarly lopsided contest, the Mounts easily handled the struggling Elmore.
Mount Pleasant was near perfect in the first quarter at Elmore Recreation Reserve, allowing just a single goal over the 15 minutes while racking up 24 of its own.
Elmore found a little more consistency offensively over the rest of the game, but the Mounts couldn’t be stopped, earning an 85-25 win.
Mount Pleasant remains in the top-of-the-table race at 4-1, while Elmore has been well off the pace so far.
In the remaining game, White Hills had too much in the tank for North Bendigo, prevailing 46-33.
Huntly had the bye.
Next week’s matches will see Colbinabbin visit Leitchville-Gunbower, while LBU will travel to Huntly.
Mount Pleasant will host North Bendigo and a bottom of the table contest will see Elmore travel to Heathcote.
