Dark clouds loomed overhead and the threat of rain lingered throughout the day as the Bears travelled to take on a strong Berrigan outfit.
The opening quarter saw Al Riley lead the way in the ruck, giving the Bears first use of the footy and putting the side in a strong position early.
There was also a special moment before the first bounce, with Drew Haebich proudly running out alongside his son Seth for his senior debut.
Drew could not wipe the smile off his face and led by example all day, showing Seth exactly what footy at the Bear Pit is all about.
Seth repaid the faith shown in him, putting together a solid performance down back and showing both his dad and the coaching staff that he belonged at senior level.
By half time, the Bears were right in the contest, trailing by just seven points.
The boys lifted after the main break, with Jacob Adkins providing plenty of drive up forward, while Lach Phillips was rock solid in defence.
Glenn Dominick was also a standout down back, continually halting Berrigan attacks and keeping the Bears in the fight.
Ben Beaton was at his dangerous best in front of goal, booting four majors and making sure everyone knew about each one as he celebrated with plenty of enthusiasm.
Trailing by 10 points at the final change, the Bears still fancied their chances.
Jacob Adkins gave the side the perfect start to the last quarter, slotting the opening goal and giving supporters plenty to believe in.
Unfortunately, Berrigan responded with a couple of quick goals and was able to create enough separation to secure the win.
Despite the result, the Bears showed plenty of fight and effort throughout the day against a quality opponent.

Reserves
Tungamah 24.21-165 defeated Berrigan 0.0-0.
With rain forecast and temperatures hovering somewhere between “fresh” and “medically concerning”, it was safe to guarantee a few blokes would discover a niggle requiring a week’s rest.
Unfortunately for the Lunch Time Legends, it was not just the usual suspects.
Across the board, they had more men go down than the Titanic, leaving the selection list more depleted than Mooka’s hairline.
The SOS calls went out, and before long, Bring A Mate to Football Day was in full swing.
Despite the shortage of cattle, the game rapidly became a scalper’s nightmare.
The Legends piled on eight goals in the first quarter and never looked back.
By half time, they could just about put the sewing machine away, with it all hemmed up.
Cam Nye inflicted more burns than Ash Wednesday as he continued his campaign against handballing.
Taking a leaf out of JJ’s playbook, Cam remained convinced that it is called football and not handball, meaning using your feet is the preferred option.
Big Jim’s knees might be well done, but his football brain is medium rare, with enough nous to position himself for four sausage rolls.
Both on the ground and at the canteen.
Captain Kelly must have looked at the forward line and decided it was lacking a few kilograms.
Claiming he was “setting up the press”, Jezza somehow found himself parked deep enough inside 50 to kick a couple himself.
A worse captain than Jack Sparrow.
The Camry was thrust back into the prime-time slot and immediately reminded everyone just how ridiculous he is at this level.
Dominant in the ruck, with multiple taps straight down teammates’ throats and a lazy eight goals for dessert, the bloke is a certainty for the Ressies interleague squad.
Milner was excellent again.
More cut-offs than a Mohel.
Seeing him on the goal scorers list, however, has raised serious concerns about his commitment to the backline.
Playa found himself in the best as a forward, which frankly made the author sick.
Years of watching him butcher opportunities has conditioned the author to believe he is only dangerous when he starts in the backline.
Beats must have wracked up a tab at Two’s Days, as he was dragged back out of retirement for another round.
Unfortunately for him, it was the exact sort of performance that guarantees the coaching staff will keep ringing on Thursday nights.
Gambi’s return from injury lasted roughly five minutes before he bravely returned to being injured.
It was a recovery timeline that should have his physio under investigation.
The final score read 165-0.
The Legends hold onto a top-two spot and, perhaps most impressively, managed to finish the day with almost as many fit players as they started with.

Thirds
Tungamah 77 defeated Berrigan 38.
At Berrigan’s home ground, the Bears came out firing.
After slow starts had cost them over the past two weeks, the boys were keen to start well, and that they did.
The first quarter saw the young Bears moving the ball fluently right around the ground, while their defensive six stuck tight to their opponents, going into quarter time with a 10-point lead.
The second quarter was a tighter tussle, but the Bears’ defence remained rock solid, keeping Berrigan scoreless for the quarter while Tungamah kicked one goal and three behinds to extend the lead to 19 points at half time.
At half time, Jim and Dean asked the boys to really step up their intensity and play the fearless football they know they can.
After kicking six goals straight for the quarter, the Bears were fairly confident of a win by the three-quarter-time break.
The word “clinical” was used at the last huddle, and that was definitely an accurate description of how the boys played.
While the scoreboard was a bit tighter in the last quarter, the damage had already been done, seeing Tunga run away with a great win against quality opposition.
Well done to the team.

Fourths
Tungamah 12-5-77 defeated Berrigan 1-2-8.
The Bears travelled to Berrigan on a cold and gloomy day, looking to get back on the winners list against last year’s premiers.
Team manager Adam Inchbold was feeling the effects of being parent A while Ingrid was overseas, having to sweet-talk his way through the gate after forgetting his phone and wallet.
After a very even start to the game, Tunga got the game on their terms in the second half of the quarter, kicking four goals straight.
Judd Haebich kickstarted the team with a couple of goals in the first quarter and finished with five for the day in a dominant display.
Ryder Kelly was busy in the forward line, jagging two goals himself and setting up multiple others.
Noah Lawless, after serving a parent-imposed benching for some home disciplinary actions, came onto the ground fired up, attacking the contest with great intensity and consistently winning the ball.
The back six were rock solid, with the Cummins boys, Darcy and Roley, constantly bobbing up with intercept possessions.
Chase Jarjoura was a workhorse out of the middle, and Finn Cummins had a run through the middle for the first time and was dynamic with some line-breaking speed, kicking two clutch goals.
Xav Whiting was creative through the wing, and Alex Morgan made the most of his time up forward, setting up scoring opportunities.
Goal Kickers: J. Haebichs 5, R. Kelly 2, F. Cummins 2, K. Jones, P. Smith, T. Buerckner.

Ryder Hayes was electric, kicking snags from every angle and celebrating like he was in the World Cup.
Rory stood tall and marked everything that came his way.
Charley and Dom were great, getting in and under the packs.
There is something special about this group, and the future of the Bears is looking good.
Awards: Charley Whinray, Rory Buerckner, Ryder Hayes.

It was a fantastic first appearance at this level and a sign of exciting things to come.

Marissa slotted straight into the line-up and made a valuable contribution as the Bears extended their lead to 33-3 by half time.

C Grade
Tungamah 29 was defeated by Berrigan 40.
Once again, Tungamah found themselves on the back foot early and spent much of the game chasing the scoreboard.
Despite the challenge, the girls never stopped working hard and showed plenty of determination throughout the contest.
Jorja was outstanding in defence, owning the rebounding circle and making every loose ball her own.
Bern was equally impressive through the midcourt, providing a calm presence under pressure.
Her relentless defensive pressure and ability to read the play resulted in countless intercepts and turnovers.
Unfortunately, Tungamah was not able to make the most of its opportunities in attack, with feeds into the circle proving difficult to execute consistently.
A special mention goes to Keira, who stepped up from the Under 17s for her first game in C Grade.
She played with confidence, moved beautifully in attack, and converted some important goals when the team needed them most.
The girls have been working hard on reducing contact across the court, and the improvement was clear to see.
While the result did not fall Tungamah’s way, there were lots of positives to take from the game as the team resets and looks forward to taking on Picola next week.

A strong start set the tone for the game, and the team built the lead across the match for a great team win.
Ava played a great game in C and WD, applying lots of pressure and creating space in attack.
She took on the coach’s feedback and guarded her player well, making Berrigan’s attacking end work hard all game.
Emma started in WD, giving her attacker a headache with body pressure and strong hands-over pressure.
Once she landed in the goal ring, she found her niche, attacked well, and converted her shots strongly.
The last quarter allowed the team to try some different combinations, flicking Billie into goals and showing her versatility.
She worked really well at both ends of the court, gaining intercepts in defence and converting goals in attack.
Well done to the team on a strong win.
