Fundraising started on Wednesday, May 8, and will continue until Friday, June 21.
The ‘ice bucket challenge’ as it is also known, raises vital funds for research into motor neurone disease.
Coles Seymour manager Caz Watson said the challenge was close to the store’s and the community’s heart.
“They know a lot of people out in the community in particular that have motor neurone disease, which is a debilitating,” she said.
“That pretty much just robs your life.”
Coles Seymour donates 10 cents for every pork product sold to FightMND.
Besides that, staff also do other fundraising to support the cause.
“We hold some fundraiser events like barbecues and dress-up days to help raise money to go towards the organisation,” Ms Watson said.
“Then we set up to date where we get a lot of team members and some people from Coles where we do the ice bucket challenge.
“We all get dunked and wet, all for bringing calls to raising awareness for motor neurone disease.
“The spirits are high, and the community comes down to visit and watch it.
“It’s just amazing (with) the support that’s been given.”
This is the seventh year Coles Seymour has participated in the MND Challenge and last year, the store was able to raise about $30,000.
“What we’re going to be aiming for is something very, very similar,” Ms Watson said.
“I think we can keep this fairly conservative, which is around $30,000.
“We go around and get team members (and say) let’s set a challenge, and let’s aim for it.”
Ms Watson said the Coles team members were always up for the challenge and were excited for this year’s event.
“It’s something close to my heart, not this cause in particular, but all causes,” she said.
“Overall, I think it’s really good to be able to support, and you give back.
“I try to encourage that where people can (give back).
“That way they just get in there, and they have a lot of fun at the same time.”
Ms Watson said there was no pressure on people to donate.
“It’s just something that I always enjoy to do is be able to support the community, no matter where I go,” she said.
“I think that rubs off on to the team as well.”
