CTA president Ryan Byrne said the association had decided to push ahead despite a couple of challenges still being unresolved — a lack of courts at the Echuca club and the requirement for players to be vaccinated if competing in NSW.
“I don’t think there will be any problems with the season getting under way. One of the committee members has worked on the draw,” he said.
“Rich River will play home games, but all Victorian players over 16 years of age will need to be double vaccinated to compete.”
For the Victorian games CTA players will not need to be double vaccinated, with no announcement being made by the governing body at this point.
“We suspect there may be an announcement in the coming days,” Mr Byrne said.
The CTA draw will be a work in progress, as the CTA administration leaves it up to the clubs to co-ordinate venues and days of competition.
“There will be a shortage of courts at Echuca, so we have decided to be flexible.
“The Echuca club will have to take it on a week-by-week basis, whether it be Friday night matches or playing at an away venue.
“I think they were more keen on the night games. They will be over capacity on some weeks, so I think there will be at least one game each week on a Friday night.”
Rich River not only won the CTA Section One title last year, but was also crowned Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association premier.
"They will probably be the favourite again,“ Mr Byrne said.
“Them and the three Echuca sides in Section One will be strong.
“Rochester will also be strong, I would expect them to make finals.”
The Rochester charge will be led by number one man Jaycob Dingwell and the top female seed, Karen Taylor or Rachael Major.
Elmore has finished sixth of eight teams in the past two years.
The Campaspe News will feature weekly voting, starting from next week, on a new $1000 Moama Bowling Club Player of the Year competition.
The award will include Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association and Campaspe Tennis Association players from the top divisons, with $500 in prize money allocated to the top three females and top three males for season 2021-22.
More details on how the award will be decided in next week’s edition.
