In the 2026 National Championships, Armstrong was the sole selection for Vic Country from the Murray Bushrangers, set to represent the big V with pride against state and interstate foe.
Most importantly though, it could shape his AFL future.
A strong championships campaign often elevates young guns striving for a list spot at the top flight - Shepparton United export Riley Onley is a recent notable example, with best-on-ground performances providing Melbourne with a view of his upside, the club that would draft him in November last year.
Armstrong has been dominant at Talent League and AFL Academy level so far this year, with the Tiger-tied prospect accumulating mass possessions against fellow Talent League and VFL opposition.
The Richmond Next Generation Academy product is set to be joined with arguable number one pick fancy Cody Walker, with the Echuca and Bendigo Pioneers midfielder also named in the Vic Country squad.
Walker, son of Carlton’s Andrew Walker, is expected to be bid on early in the draft, likely to be matched by the Blues as a father-son recruit.
Vic Country’s first National Championships game is scheduled for Sunday, June 14 against the Allies, a team comprising of players from Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania.
