Lockington Bowls Club
Another busy week on the greens at Lockington, with good weather and excellent greens of offer plus the usual display of talent to play.

The week commenced on Monday with the annual Johnno's Pig on Spit being held in memory of our past greenkeeper Ian Johnson, who passed away in 2024.
The numbers were down a little from past years, but the King's Birthday long weekend had members attending to family duties.
However, the people who attended were treated to some fine quality cooking by Lloyd Buchanan and helpers to offer a treat to eat.
Pos Andrea was to the fore and welcomed the assistance from the many friends of the Johnson family in the kitchen area.
Shane Felmingham also displayed some energy behind the bar.
Overall, a pleasant day with the bowlers showing plenty of enthusiasm on the greens.
On Wednesday, the stars were shining with some healthy scoring across the green.
On rink one, club president John van den Bosch showed a lot of class to register a winning tally of 51 points, despite missing a score on the final two ends.
Second place went to Andy Harris, 47, ahead of Pos Andrea on 40 points.
Next door, Steve Peter was in control to amass a decisive 63 points, while Owen McPhee managed a fine 52 points. John Dowie finished on 25 points.
On rink three, John Andrea showed the way to glory with a brilliant tally of 48 points to win from Lorraine Appleby, 44, along with Russell Shawcross, on the same score of 44.
The final rink belonged to Rod Fiedler with an outstanding total of 69 points, with Ray Hanson close by on 60 points, while new bowler Donna Hart managed a gallant 10 points against some heavyweight opposition.
Saturday scrounge was played in overcast and cool weather conditions, with bowlers displaying true grit and competitive scoring.
Rod Fiedler maintained his recent run of top bowling to win the rink on 49 points ahead of Graeme Wood, 38 points, and Owen McPhee, 31.
Natalie McLaughlin bowled without much luck to tally 19 points. Her reason was the short bowls from her opposition kept her away from the kitty?
Ray Hanson stepped up to collect the chocolates after a vintage display of quality bowls, scoring 60 points, while Lorraine Appleby chased hard to manage 52 points and Frank Chugg had to be content with 26 points.
John Andrea just kept on his winning way in registering a marvellous 60 points to shade next in line Neil Haines, a cool 48 points, while John Dowie managed a luckless 32 points.
Scrounge will continue on both Wednesday and Saturday (weather permitting) during the winter break from pennant.
Rochester Golf Club
Wednesday 9-hole social golf results open this week's golf at Rochester Golf Club.
Visitor Rodger Price won with 23 Stableford points from the consistent Les Hedington on 22 points.
Other good scores were Richard Feuk (21), and Kevin McCormick, Brendan McCarty, and Mike Austin, all with 20.
On Friday, the ladies played par. Although not every golfer's favourite event, club stalwart veteran Jenny Major played well to win with +1 against par.
Next best was Louise Eeles, who finished with square.
Louise Williams was nearest for her shots to the third, eighth and 16th holes.
New member Natalie Dinardi showed promise to win the 9-hole competition with a credible +3.
In typical winter conditions on Saturday, under threatening skies, the men played the first round of the club's 2026 championships.
Once again, Graham and Raylee Willis proudly sponsored the day's event.
President Lee Hicks played solid golf to shoot two-over, 73 (68), to win from captain Darren White on a countback from the unlucky Chris Trewin, both on net 69.
Balls went to Jake Wright (70), followed by Andy Purdy, veteran Ap Kuiper, Mike Austin, Andrew Cassin, and Chris Eeles, all on net 71.
Leisa Evans easily won the ladies event with a fine net 69.
Chris Trewin (5) and Andy Purdy (9) were the only nearest the pin winners.
Jake Wright leads A-grade, shooting one-over (72) from Hicks, 73, Purdy and Cassin, all with 77 off the stick.
B-grade is always the most interesting. Chris Eeles is leading with 85, closely followed by Darren White and Chris Trewin on 86.

Firday, June 12 — Ambrose
The ladies played something different, a three-person Ambrose, with the best score of 43-17-26 returned by Sue Eade, Jenny Holt, and Pauline Humbert.
They finished just two shots in front of Marg Eade, Phyll Macfarlane, and Annette Brereton, who finished with 45-17-28. Great to see Marg back having a hit.
Nearest the pins: Annette Brereton and Sue Eade.
Saturday, June 13 — Stroke, Second Round Club Championships
Despite his cart breaking down on the fourth hole, Tony Brooke hitched a ride in another cart and scorched around the course to return the brilliant score of 100-39-61 to street the field and win the Privilege Cup and a successive Lockington Foodworks Supermarket Player of the Day.
His round was highlighted by super putting and great chipping.
Stuart Newton was back in form with a terrific 77-12-65 to return the day’s next best score, ahead of Jeff Carnie (87-20-67), Darren Carnie (87-18-69), and Andrew Harris (84-15-69).
Thanks to Don Muhleisen for his donation of golf balls used as prizes on the day.
Nearest the pins: Third – Grant Humbert; second shot on ninth – Kevin Humbert, Andrew Harris, and Jeff Carnie; second shot on 18th for the six-pack smack – Stuart Newton.
Spike’s Longest Drive on the first, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing – Grant Humbert, Darren Carnie, and Jeff Carnie.
Neither the O’Connors Case eagle’s nest on the third, nor Captain Grant’s yardstick on the 16th, was won.
Handicap Matchplay Championships, first round match: two-time winner Tom Scurrah was the leading qualifier, but he was knocked out by three-time winner (and 16th qualifier) Terry Thomas, 5 and 4, in their match on Saturday.
In the race for the club championship, Grant Humbert (153) has surged to an eight-shot lead, thanks to his improved round of 74.
Terry Thomas (161) is next, followed by Phil Stanford (163), and Steve Holt and Jason Wakefield (both 165).
With a better score of 84 this week, Andrew Harris (174) now has a four-shot lead in B-grade, ahead of Darren Carnie (178), and followed by Jeff Carnie (185) and Ron Dixon (187).
Steve Holt (141) leads in a very close A-grade nett race, ahead of Terry Thomas (143) and three players on 145 – Stuart Newton, Phil Stanford, and Jason Wakefield.
There are in fact seven players separated by only six shots, so it’s well and truly up for grabs.
The B-grade nett title is a totally different kettle of fish, with Tony Brooke (129) a massive 13 shots clear of Darren Carnie (142), followed by Andrew Harris (144) and Jeff Carnie (145).
Tony also leads the contest for the veterans title, ahead of Steve Holt (141), Darren Carnie (142), and Terry Thomas (143).
