That’s because there will be no Rochester in the big dance.
Rochy had its hopes of premiership success ended at the weekend by familiar foe Kyabram Fire Brigade, which is now just 90 overs away from back-to-back flags.
Captain Sean Williams said it was a tough result to take.
“We’re all extremely disappointed because we had worked so hard to get here,” he said.
“I don’t think we played our best game and unfortunately the day just didn’t go our way.”
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Rochester was unable to find any consistency during its innings.
Despite Charlie Ryan coming in at first drop and scoring 34 runs from 87 balls, he struggled to find any support as just three other batsmen reached double figures.
When Ryan was run out, Rochester was reeling at 8-82 and being bowled out for under 100 looked a real possibility.
But Jesse Cuttriss provided some late-order hitting to help the home side reach 8-129 from its 45 overs.
Fire Brigade’s Brenton Campbell eventually took the game away from the home side with a devastating 61-run performance before he was dismissed by Dylan Cuttriss.
Angus Martin and Kyle Waters took two scalps of their own in a positive performance according to their skipper.
“Brenton showed if you could get yourself in there were some decent scores on offer,” Williams said.
“There was a little bit in the pitch for the bowlers and Fire Brigade did a good job to make the most of that.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t put a big enough score on the board to win the game.”
While Williams was openly disappointed about the result, he said it had been a “privilege” to play cricket this season.
“There were stages where we even questioned if we would get started,” he said.
“Given the situation the world finds itself in, we have to consider ourselves very lucky.
“Despite what happened on Saturday, I know the boys will be back. Our younger guys have a couple of finals series under their belt now and that is going to hold them in good stead.
“There is still plenty to be excited about as a Rochester fan.”
Fire Brigade will meet Echuca in the final after the latter got the better of local rival Moama by five wickets.
Rochester’s B-grade team also went down to Fire Brigade by 45 runs.
