Nathalia claimed its 10th win from 10 games in the A-grade Murray Netball League competition, dismantling Cobram by 46 goals to keep a firm stranglehold on its minor premiership claim.
Nathalia star Laura Cole said it was a complete performance by her side, blitzing the Tigers in attack for the highest score by the ladder-leader this year.
“We were really happy with our performance, we’ve obviously had a very good start to the season so far with no losses, but that does add a bit of pressure, so we’ve done really well with just taking each game week by week,” Cole said.
“We showed that on Saturday, you know we got to 80 goals which is our best for the season.”
A 12-goal lead at quarter-time reflected what was to come across the entire match, as the Purples let the goalers cook.
Specifically Jane Cook.
Cook scored a whopping 57 goals in the blowout victory, that coming in three quarters too before Nathalia trialled a different rotation with the game won in the final term.
It was Cook’s best scoring return since scoring 66 against second-placed Mulwala in round six.
With a keen eye for positioning, Cook found space in the clinches and garnered plenty of high percentage shots at the net, hoisting Nathalia on her back to race to a 10-0 start to 2026 with a Tiger killing, 34-80.
“She’s unbelievable,” Cole said of Cook.
“We’re so lucky to have her in the team, not only is she a force under the ring, but she’s a great conductor of the play, her communication is awesome.”
Mulwala is still snapping at the heels with a 9-1 record, but was challenged by an admirable Rumbalara unit on Saturday.
Rumba went toe to toe with the Lions, trailing by a goal at half-time, but would fall away in the final term to lose by 12 goals.
Likewise, winless Congupna gave Deniliquin a run for its money momentarily in an improved effort of heart on display.
The Road trailed by two goals at quarter-time, but the Rams kicked into gear in the second term, holding Congupa to four goals to establish a 13-goal buffer that would extend to a 50-28 full time result.
In other fixtures, Moama moved to third on the table with a clutch seven-goal win over finals contender Numurkah, while fourth-placed Tongala made short work of Finley, 75-32.
Echuca United had the bye in round 11, returning to action on the road against The Road on Saturday.
