Moama was too strong for Congupna, jumping out to a nine-goal lead after the first quarter before holding the Road at bay to claim a comfortable 50-30 victory.
It was a key four points for Moama, which has now opened up a four-game gap over Conpugna in seventh, with the Pies also keeping up with the league’s other top sides.
Magpies coach Lisa Drysdale said she was pleased with her side’s performance.
“I was really happy with the girls, it was such a great team game,” Drysdale said.
“It was a very consistent game. Our error rate was very, very low and everyone looked after the ball well.
“Everyone was really supportive of each other on the court, considering we were down to five of our regular players.”
Looking to claim back-to-back wins, Moama was dealt a blow early on when Liv Taverna was forced from the court after dislocating her knee.
It is a tough break for Taverna, who suffered the same injury to the same knee earlier this year, and has been a key piece in the Moama midcourt.
On top of that, the Pies were also without regular starters Alex Daly and Charlotte Sheldon.
But the strength of the Moama squad shone through, with a number of players stepping into the side and excelling.
Drysdale said Sienna Agg and Carri Carter were great after getting the call-up to the A-grade side.
“We had to call up Sienna to take the court and she was best on,” Drysdale said.
“She played a sensational game. She had such an impact on the play, she was unreal. We had Carri’s calming influence in the centre and it was like she had played with us all year.”
Abby Larkin also earned Drysdale’s praise, with the 16-year-old having a great game in her A-grade debut.
“Abby played really well. She is normally a ring defender but we put her in wing defence and she was fantastic,” Drysdale said.
“It was very exciting, and her parents were over the moon.”
The Magpies sit in fifth spot on the ladder and are one of three teams with eight wins, just behind Tongala and Nathalia.
Moama will face a tough challenge this weekend when it takes on the undefeated Deniliquin Rams on Saturday.
