An enthralling clash was held at Stauch Reserve as an Elmore side on the rise looked to string together three in a row against a middle-of-the-road Huntly outfit.
The Bloods’ burst up the table was cut off in heartbreaking fashion, as the Hawks survived the contest by a single goal 46-45.
Huntly’s win moves it into the top four, now 3-1-3, while Elmore missed its chance to improve to fifth, remaining in seventh at 2-5.
Lockington-Bamawm vs Colbinabbin
Colbinabbin has barrelled through all eight other sides in HDL netball.
Coming in at the bottom of the table, the Cats did far better than others have in recent weeks against the might of Colbinabbin, but were still well below the champion’s level.
The league seems to have no answer for the Grasshoppers’ attack, and that proved to be the case again at Lockington Recreation Reserve.
Colbo has been routinely logging 20-plus goal quarters, and did so again as it led 23-13 at quarter time.
The leader cruised to a 46-24 lead at the main break, and it was more of the same after halftime as the Hoppers closed it out 87-46.
While the Cats couldn’t prevent conceding more than 85 goals for a fourth straight game, Lockington responded far better on attack than Colbinabbin’s recent opposition, its last three opponents scoring 20, 31 and 24.
Colbinabbin is a perfect 8-0 headed into the bye, while Lockington-Bamawm is stuck on the bottom with a 1-6 record.
In Gunbower, North Bendigo rolled through Leitchville-Gunbower 56-39.
The Bombers showed patches of good form but remain off the pace in eighth (1-1-5), while North Bendigo’s 3-4 is good for fifth spot.
White Hills had no trouble dealing with Heathcote, defeating the Saints 56-31 on the road.
Mount Pleasant had the bye.
League leader Colbinabbin goes on the bye this week to complete the first full cycle of fixtures.
Mount Pleasant will return to action, at home to Heathcote, while Lockington-Bamawm United heads to Elmore.
White Hills will host Leitchville-Gunbower and Huntly will visit North Bendigo.
