Titans prop Klese Haas, 24, has looked up to his more illustrious 26-year-old brother Payne all his life. Rather than be daunted by the giant shadow the Broncos prop casts, Klese has been inspired to be better.
Klese has moved out of that shadow in his own right and is now an established NRL forward with 70 games to his credit.
On Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium, the pair will clash for the fifth time and so far it is two wins apiece.
"Hopefully I get bragging rights over him. He's got a lot to brag about, so hopefully I get something over him," Klese said.
"We talk almost every day and he's probably the first person to message me after games and see how I pulled up, so it's really good.
"He always calls me and gives me like a paragraph of stuff to work on after games, so it's good to have someone to lean on like that."
So how has the chatter been this week in the lead-up to the match?
"We'll still talk quite a bit but nothing about game plans and what not," Klese replied.
Both sides are desperate for a win to ignite their respective seasons.
The Broncos, defending premiers, have lost four on the trot to slip to 11th while the 16th-placed Titans have lost their last five.
Payne was filthy after he starred with 281m and 33 tackles in a dire 30-26 defeat to St George Illawarra.
"After a loss, they want to get their season back on track, so we're expecting a bit of hostility going up there, but we're all ready for it," Klese said.
"If I'm being honest, we're pretty confident.
"There's been a lot of games where the 50-50 calls aren't going our way, but I feel a lot of the games we are in it right to the end and it's just execution at the end of the day.
"Our defence has been extraordinary. It is just our attack that needs to be fixed up."
The brothers would love to play in the NRL together one day, but that is unlikely to happen in the short term with Klese contracted at Gold Coast for 2027 and keen for an extension. Payne will join South Sydney next year.
The dream could be realised with Samoa at the end-of-season World Cup where Payne will be first picked and Klese hoping for a debut after previously representing Philippines.
"To have that opportunity to represent our culture, our heritage together, it would mean the world to us," he said.
"So fingers crossed. Hopefully we play some better footy and hopefully I'm in the conversation for it."
