If you enjoy some good old-fashioned music, then the Cobram River Rockers might be the dance club for you.
Club president Derek Wagner said the group had been running for 17 years and currently had around 60 members.
“It was just a group of us that loved ‘50s and ‘60s music and dancing, so we formed a club, and it grew from there,” he said.
“It’s social, it’s good for your physical and mental health... it touches on all those wellbeing things.”
Mr Wagner said the group wasn’t just about rock ’n’ roll dancing, but also dancing with partners, line dancing, the rumba, cha-cha and waltz.
Mr Wagner said the club’s main annual dance was held over the March long weekend at the Cobram Civic Centre, and the most recent one went “really well”.
“We had probably 450 ticket holders over the whole weekend,” he said.
“We had big-name bands from the rock 'n' roll scene travel from Melbourne... and a solo artist.”
Mr Wagner said they were “really lucky” for the club members they had, as they were always ready to help.
“We’ve got a great bunch of people and our dance committee is fabulous,” he said.
Club treasurer Annette McLeod said the theme for this year’s dance was ‘enchanted forest’ and the set-up looked “absolutely beautiful”.

“We don’t make a lot of money out of it, any profit we do make we give back to the community, but it’s not about making money,” she said.
“It’s the joy of like-minded people coming together and enjoying the weekend, we get people coming from Adelaide, Gippsland, Mildura and Canberra.
“People are already booking in for next year’s dance, I’ve sold a table of 10 tickets.”
Ms McLeod said she had been a member of the club for nearly 10 years and enjoys “teaching and seeing people learn and grow”.
“The friends that I’ve made, they’re lifelong friendships,” she said.
“It’s also a safe environment, safe for single women or single men to come along and feel comfortable.”
Mr Wagner said his favourite part about the club was “seeing people having fun”.
“I love to just sit back and watch them laugh, joke and carry on as a group, and to me, that’s job done,” he said.
“We do six-week beginners’ lessons, and it’s a bit of a taste test for people to come try it and see if they like it.”
Classes are every Tuesday at 7pm at the Yarroweyah town hall.
