The eight-minute immersive experience allows students to gain a deeper understanding of real-world roles and responsibilities, while following the journey of water treatment and learning about the operational, technical and safety aspects of the industry.
The VR experience is expected to be released in the coming months and will be rolled out across Victoria through the Victorian Virtual Industry Careers Experience platform, operating in schools and education settings.
“Being the first essential service provider in Victoria to be represented on the platform puts us at the forefront of showcasing meaningful career pathways to young people,” GV Water general manager customers and growth Jonno Bellette said.
“If students can see themselves in these roles, they’re far more likely to consider a future in the industry.”
Developed in partnership with the Water Industry Operators Association of Australia and co-ordinated by the Goulburn Murray Local Learning and Employment Network, the initiative provides students with insight into careers in the water industry.
“Water is fundamental to every community, yet many people don’t fully understand the breadth of careers available in our sector,” Mr Bellette said.
“This project allows us to tell our story in a way that is engaging, authentic and accessible — and ultimately helps build the workforce of tomorrow.”
A web-based version will also be available to ensure students, teachers and families can access the experience from home.
