Crown Pizza and Kebabs held its grand opening on Saturday, May 16 at the store on Wyndham St in Shepparton.
Owners Sayed Masod Ibrahimi and Zahra Sadat said the opening went well, with the restaurant being busy so far.
Having arrived in Australia as refugees from Iran in 2017, the family have now called the region home for almost a decade.
They have found their feet in Shepparton, and are proud to be opening their own small business.
Sayed said the business was the result of years of hospitality experience and a passion for sharing food with the local community.
The restaurant is truly a family affair, with the couple’s two older daughters also working at the business.
One of their daughters Zainab Ibrahimi said the new restaurant has been busy since opening.
“We all have lots of experience with food service and basically, everything to do with hospitality,” she said.
“Dad worked in hospitality, Mum did for a small amount of time as well, and I did too.”
When asked for her food recommendation, Zainab said “probably the Afghan food … it will be very tasty”.
From Saturday, May 23, the restaurant expanded its offerings to include Iranian and Afghan meals alongside its existing menu of pizzas, lasagne, chips, nuggets, burgers, gozleme and kebabs.
“Ongoing from there, we’ll add more stuff to the menu,” she said.
Despite the hard work involved in running a hospitality business, Sayed said he was passionate about what the family was bringing to the table.
“Hospitality is not easy... but our goal is for customers to walk away happy with our food and service,” Sahar said.
Crown Pizza and Kebabs is open from 10am to 10pm daily at shop 2, 465 Wyndham St, Shepparton.
