Two teams in different sections of the Goulburn Murray Cricket ladder faced off at Bamawm Recreation Reserve, BLU looking to mount a title charge, while L-G languishes in the bottom three.
L-G sent the Lions in to bat first and looked to be building early momentum when Blake Gibson had the wicket of captain Regis Chakabva (5) with nine runs on the board.
Import Woody Wilson came to the crease with intent and paired well to add 45 runs with Kade Pearse before the latter fell victim to a run out.
Wilson pushed on and made the stand that would define the match alongside Luke Thompson, the duo adding 150 to the total.
The number three notched his ton a few balls before Thompson departed for 59 and Wilson could only add six more before he departed for a quality 110 from 118 deliveries, including nine fours and two sixes.
Now 4-215, BLU had been set up for success and a quick cameo from Prateer Mehta (24 from 21) was the next best effort as the Lions posted a competitive 7-284 from their 50 overs.
Blake Gibson, James Keath and Simon Tatt shared the wicket-taking duties for L-G with two apiece.
The Leitchville-Gunbower innings looked as if it may have some legs early after a fantastic knock from star bat Tyler Jones at the top.
Although he lost his opening partner without score, Jones paired with Scott Lucas to add 73 runs and put L-G in a decent position.
When Lucas (33) fell Jones went on with the job, putting the innings on his back and eventually raising the willow for his first ton of the season.
However, by this time his side was still in dire straits, with only less than 180 on the board and seven wickets fallen.
Things went from bad to worse as five deliveries after raising the bat Brett Mundie’s wiles got the best of Jones and he was out stumped.
The L-G tail was quick to follow and the innings was over nine balls later, L-G dismissed for 187.
A good selection of Lions got their chance with the ball as nine bowlers were used, the standouts Mundie (3-37) and Luke Thompson (3-29).
The win keeps BLU in the conversation for a top two finish, while L-G would need a huge late surge to finish any higher than seventh.
The Lions host winless Nondies-Cohuna this weekend, while Leitchville-Gunbower will also be at home, but to unbeaten Moama.
