The Tigers have made a habit of falling by scores in the region of 10 goals, and the situation was the same against the mid-table Swans at Rochester Recreation Reserve.
Momentum swung quickly in the early minutes of the game, with Shepparton scoring the first four goals of the match before Rochester responded with five of its own.
The Swans made another run to return to the lead and led by three at quarter-time.
A good second term, especially late, saw the Tigers draw a goal closer and go into the main break trailing just 21-23.
The Shepparton team talk proved a catalyst for a Swans run and the away side scored nine of the first 11 goals after the break to begin to build its lead.
Leading by 11 at the final change and as many as 12, Rochester rallied in the fourth quarter to reduce the margin, but still fell eight goals short, going down 52-44 at the final whistle.
A short-handed Tigers outfit ran out only seven players for the contest, while the Swans had nine to call on when needed.
The Swans are in an intense battle to make finals, while the Tigers fall to 4-12 with the result.
A game against bottom-of-the-table Benalla should hopefully provide the Tigers with a positive moment at the end of the year.
Rochester will host the Saints on August 16.
