As it so often has this season, Rochester found itself just slightly off the pace in round 13 of Goulburn Valley League netball action.
Mooroopna was the latest side to hand the Tigers a defeat by a margin in the low 10s, prevailing 52-41 at Rochester Recreation Reserve, despite the host making a good start to the game.
After a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes, Rochy kicked away late in the first quarter, holding a four-goal edge at the first break.
That margin remained intact until a game-defining five-minute stretch in the second, which saw the Cats score nine in a row, turning the game five goals in their favour.
Rochy finished the half well and was back within two at the main break.
Mooroopna slowly grew its lead over the course of the second half and crept out to the final 11-goal margin by game’s end.
Tia Webb was again the focus of Rochester’s goaling efforts, making 34 of her side’s 41 goals, while Marli Cottam added the other seven as her goaling partner.
The Cats leaned on Ashley Lancaster (36) for the majority of their goals.
Rochester will enjoy a week off as the GVL split round 13 continues, but is in for a tough fixture upon its return, taking on undefeated leader and defending champion Euroa on July 19.
