Under-16 Boys
Rochy met Maryborough for the second time this season, and after losing to them in round one the Tigers were keen on redemption.
Rochy came out firing from the first bounce and managed to get plenty of the ball. Jake Munro was a strong competitor up forward, showing he can be just as dangerous forward as he can be in the backline.
Unfortunately, Rochy couldn’t convert their scoring shots, only kicking one major and going to the first break 10 points behind.
The boys found some momentum in the second quarter, managing to kick three goals and keep Maryborough scoreless.
Unfortunately, towards the end of the first half, Maryborough lost a player to injury, resulting in Rochy having to also reduce numbers on the ground to 17 – causing an interchange headache for the coaching crew.
However, that didn’t deter the on field performance, and at the main break Rochy were on top - 32 points to Maryborough’s 19.
Kaelan Connor had his best game of the season, continuing to be a great aerial target all over the ground.
Mitch Munro was kept busy all day contesting and intercepting the ball at every opportunity.
Ryan Wilson was continuously on the lead, presenting himself as a forward option many times over.
However, Maryborough put themselves back into the game in the third, outscoring Rochy and clawing ahead going to the break up by three points.
The fourth quarter became a nail-biter, with both teams increasing the intensity, desperate for the win.
Cale James managed to get his goal count up to three when it was needed most, and Preston Kath showed he was able to fill the role of a big forward, kicking two majors for the day.
With 90 seconds to go, Maryborough missed a set shot that would have levelled the scores.
The Tigers knew they had to hold on, and with the clock rapidly counting down, supporters were on the edge of their seats.
Rochy propelled the ball into their forward line and in a poetic nod to his Big Nan, with just 30 seconds to go, Jag Tarrant kicked a major nailing the win for the Tigers.
