Plenty of excitement when word had filtered through the community that our dominating division four midweek teams had won the Campaspe Playing Area premiership against Moama Green, played at Rich River Bowls Club on Tuesday.
The end result was a 51-34 victory with both rinks winning (John Andrea, Pos Andrea, Shane Felmingham, Steve Peter (s) d. K. Black 25-14; Russell Shawcross, Terrill Westwood, Kim Ray, Cindy Felmingham (s) d. D. Hogan 26-20).
The emergency player was Erin Gumbleton, who cheered the teams on and received a premiership medal along with the teams.
However, in hindsight it was not always beer and skittles, as both games had a changing pattern midway through the matches.
The Steve Peter rink leapt out of the blocks to establish a 17-1 lead as their opponents tried to make up the deficit and reduced the scoreline, winning 13 shots to eight over the closing ends.
The Lockington bowlers were determined to win the pennant.
In the other match up, the Deenar Hogan skipped rink gained an early lead of 16-5 before our Cindy Felmingham skipped rink found the target to reduce the leeway, displaying some immaculate bowling to draw level and going on to win the game 26-20.
This midweek pennant victory in division four is the first taste of finals since last century, when Lockington were successful in the C.V.B.L.B.A. 1991-92 division three final.
Congratulations to all members who contributed during the season.
Other premiership winners were division one: Moama d. Echuca 70-45; div two Kyabram d. Moama 68-66 (final bowl!); div three: Moama d. Deniliquin Blue 45-30.
Congratulations to the Rich River Bowling Club for their tremendous effort in providing everything required for the players and supporters. A great day.
On Tuesday evening there was a quality field to contest the popular Barefoot Bowls, where everyone in attendance celebrated the division four premiership victory and supported a charity night for the Lockington and District Bush Nursing Centre.
Twenty-odd bowlers went into battle and at the end of the two games of eight ends there were two teams undefeated.
The trio of Jayden D. Wright, Terrill Westwood, Anthony Westwood (s) won the chocolates, scoring two wins +13 shots ahead of Peter Eade, Ken Burns, Rod Fiedler/Jeff Carnie (s's), two wins +5 shots.
Bowl to the ditch went to Colin McKee.
Plenty of raffle prizes were won. Major prizes to Kim Ray, Terrill Westwood, and Sarah McKee.
Club secretary Leanne McInnes thanked all players and supporters for supporting the evening where in excess of $700 was raised.
L.D.B.N.C. committee member Ian Haines responded on behalf of the Bush Nursing Centre and thanked all for the effort.
No luck to report in the 60 and over ranks in the weekly event played at Elmore Bowls Club.
On the tournament circuit, several members have enjoyed some success.
A rink including Russell Shawcross, John Andrea, John van den Bosch, and Ian Berry from Rochester won the Open Fours event held at Elmore on Thursday.
Six members journeyed to the Pyramid Hill Bowling Club on Saturday evening for their Twilight Mixed Pairs tournament.
Cindy Felmingham - Shane Felmingham (one win), John van den Bosch - Steve Peter (two wins), and Denise Gilmore - Brian Kinnane (two wins) all enjoyed the evening and hospitality provided.
The club members were saddened by the passing of past member Madge Cunnington at 102 years.
Madge was a prominent member of the club over many years and enjoyed the company of all bowlers, serving on all committees, and was a confident and champion pennant player.
Condolences to the immediate Cunnington families.
The women are holding the Annual Medley Fours on Wednesday, March 25, commencing at 10am.
Contact Kathi Maddison or Denise Gilmore for entries.

60 and over
The Campaspe 60 and Over Bowls Group held their Wednesday weekly bowls at Elmore on a pleasant day.
26 teams consisting of 104 bowlers all competing for a chook.
There were only two three-game winners.
The top green was obviously heavier than the bottom green.
The runners-up were David Murray’s team from Rochester, which had one bowl out of eight near the jack within the metre stick.
The Rochester team were lead David Burdett, Brian Kinnane second, Ian Dennis third, and the skipper was Francis Keech.

Goulburn Valley Veteran Golfers
The rain came down on March 2 and 3 and caused the postponement of the annual challenge between the Goulburn Valley Veteran Golfers Association and Central District for the Tom Downie Shield.
We are most grateful to the Bendigo Golf Club for hosting the event on March 9, the Monday of the long weekend, despite the problems faced by flooding of the ground floor of the clubhouse and pro-shop.
Our hosts presented the course in excellent condition, and the weather was perfect for golf ranging from 21 to 26 degrees with a consistent light breeze at about 15 kilometres per hour.
Leading the field for Goulburn Valley on a four-player countback with 35 points were Frank Broucek, Bowen, Queensland; Ian Hannaford, Numurkah; Robert Smith, Parkland; Phil Steers, Shepparton.
A ball rundown from 34 to 33 points included: Neil Boswell, Deniliquin; Mal Inglis, Strathbogie; John Keller, Hill Top; Graeme Crosbie, Mooroopna; John Mortimer, Shepparton; Rolf Weber, Mooroopna; Geoff Corboy Deniliquin; Jim Dean, Kialla; Michael Gallivan, Valley View; and John Radeski, Deniliquin.
Central District’s leading scores were recorded by Ian Coates, 40 points; Joy Kelly, 40; Tony Olsson, 39; and Leslie Pocock, 39.
The ball rundown from 38 to 33 points included: Richard Gay, David Holmes, Brian Jenner, Garry Moore, Rob Sutton, Lindsay Kramer, Domenic Pompei, Vin Walsh, Geoff Cook, Billy Drummond, Michael Hockley, Charles Kelly, and Ern Kraulis.
Because of the depleted numbers in the GV team, the championship this year was decided on the aggregate of the best 30 Stableford scores from each team.
Central compiled 1017 points, well up on the GV total of 934.
This has proved a very even contest over the years, with CD now leading with nine wins to seven, with one drawn result.
Nearest-the-pin was contested on four holes: Phil Steers, GV, 173m 5th; Lindsay Kramer, CD, claimed two prizes, 139m 12th and 124m 17th; and Danny Curran, CD, was nearest second shot on the 281m 14th.
Our next regular event is at Euroa Golf Club on Monday, March 16, with a 9.30am assembly for 10am tee.
