Nield’s dozen brings misery for Cutters

Mathoura fell to a fifth consecutive defeat to begin the Picola District Football League season, downed by 107 points at home by Dookie United.

Chris Nield had a field day in the clash for Dookie, a part of almost every Dooks move as he kicked 12 of his side’s goals in the 20.10 (130) to 3.5 (23) victory.

Dookie grabbed the early advantage with six goals in the first period, although Mathoura had some patches of strong play, finding two majors of its own.

The Timbercutters had to wait until the third period to find their third and final major, and Dookie would go on to kicked seven unanswered in the final term to seal the big scoreline.

Jordy Priestley kicked two of Mathoura’s three goals, while Jake Rawe chipped in the third.

Behind Nield, the Dooks’ next best scorer was Zavier Marshall with three.

Mathoura sits among four winless sides at the base of the table through five games.

Although it has the least effective offence, the Cutters have defended significantly better than Rennie and Katunga, giving up 661 points to those sides’ 876 and 804 respectively.

Mathoura’s next game will be an away contest against the 2-3 Tungamah.
