What a fantastic atmosphere it was with so many members and supporters turning up to watch.
In the ladies’ final, Jenny Tonta showed great determination, fighting hard to stage a comeback, but it was Carly Crothers who held her nerve to claim a close 25-20 victory.
The men’s final was an absolute thriller, with the scores locked at 24 all heading into the final end.
In a nail-biting finish, Conway Bovell prevailed over Tony Tonta to take the championship.
Weekend Pennant
Deniliquin Bowling Club recorded mixed results across several divisions in Campaspe Playing Area weekend pennant action, with competitive matches played both at home and away.
In Division 1, Deniliquin took on Stanhope in a hard-fought contest.
Shane Laing and team led the way with a narrow 24-21 victory.
Conway Bovell’s rink faced strong opposition and went down 11-31, while Jamie Shields and crew battled throughout but was defeated 17-22.
Division 2 travelled to Stanhope for an earlier than usual start time.
Paul Clear and his rink delivered a positive result with a 21-17 win, while Paul Snares’ rink (12-18) and Peter Chadderton’s team (14-19) were unable to secure wins despite competitive efforts.
Back on home greens, Division 3 produced a strong performance against Stanhope.
Although Ken Salter and his side narrowly lost 19-20, Mark Law and his rink dominated with a convincing 30-11 win.
Carly Crothers and her side added to the success with an impressive 26-11 victory.
In Division 5 White, playing at Deniliquin Bowling Club against Stanhope, Linda Harris’ side recorded a solid 21-12 win.
Greame Dedman lead his quartet in a tight contest, just going down 21-22.
Division 5 Blue faced Echuca Blue, with Deniliquin putting together a competitive showing.
Alan Hardcastle and his rink produced a standout performance with a dominant 29-8 win, while John Murray’s side fought out a close match that finished in an 18-all draw.
With several strong individual performances across the grades, Deniliquin will look to carry momentum into the upcoming rounds of the pennant season.
