Mounts replicate success in final

Mt Pleasant did the double over Colbinabbin in the Heathcote District Football League qualifying final.

The Mighty Mounts defeated the Grasshoppers only seven days previously in the final round of the regular season and maintained their level with a spot in a grand final qualifier on the line 12.15 (87) to 8.6 (54).

This time, the clash was held at the neutral venue of Gunbower Recreation Reserve and early signs pointed to a Colbo boilover.

The Hoppers burst out of the blocks with five majors in the opening period, while Mt Pleasant managed one.

The Mighty Mounts regained control in the second, kicking three goals to one, but Colbinabbin still held a slight edge 39-31.

The momentum was with Mt Pleasant and it continued to exert its will in the second half.

Another eight goals, to two from Colbo, guided Mt Pleasant to a comfortable win, a far cry from how things looked in the opening quarter.

Ben Weightman piled on the goals, kicking seven for Mt Pleasant, while Mitchell Bennett and Brodie Leonard-Shannon found two each.

The Mighty Mounts now advance to a grand final qualifier with minor premier North Bendigo, to be held at Colbinabbin Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

Colbinabbin will be in action on Sunday at Lockington Recreation Reserve, facing Huntly, which pulled off its own escape act to oust Leitchville-Gunbower, in an elimination final.
