Jack Jansen booted five goals as Lockington-Bamawm United’s reserves progressed to a second qualifying final in the Heathcote District Football League.
While the Heathcote District Football Netball League finals series began in senior football and A-grade netball at the weekend, plenty of local clubs also had sides competing in the first week of finals across other grades.

Lockington-Bamawm United and Mount Pleasant have particularly strong representation in the lower grades, while a few Colbinabbin and Elmore teams remain in the mix.
Football
Reserves
Like its senior side, Lockington’s reserves will face North Bendigo in the second week of finals after it won its qualifying final against Huntly 11.12 (78) to 6.3 (39).
The Cats gradually built their lead throughout the match, with Jack Jansen (five) and Henry Peris (four) leading the way in the goal-kicking department.
In the other game, Mount Pleasant progressed to face Huntly after winning its elimination final with ease, thrashing White Hills 18.11 (119) to 2.4 (16).
A dominant first half saw the Mounts up 45 points by half-time, Jesse O’Connell having a field day as he booted six majors.
Under-18
Lockington and Mount Pleasant also featured in the first week of the under-18 finals series, with the Mounts defeating the Cats 8.8 (56) to 6.8 (44) in their qualifying final.
In the elimination final, Colbinabbin lost 5.6 (36) to 9.6 (60) to Huntly, which will be Lockington’s opponent next in a semi-final.
Under-15
The Cats were again represented in the under-15 final series, and won their qualifying final against Runnymede 8.7 (55) to 6.2 (38).
Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant was eliminated after a 3.2 (20) to 11.8 (74) loss to Heathcote.
Netball
Colbinabbin named Charlotte Ashford-Meehan as one of its best via its Facebook page, the Grasshoppers defeating Huntly by a goal in the A reserve netball qualifying final.
A-reserve
Colbinabbin progressed to a second qualifying final after a thrilling 50-49 victory over Huntly.
A strong second period had Colbo up 24-21 at half-time, and although outscored in the second half, the Grasshoppers did enough to hold onto the win.
Like A-grade, Colbo will now play Mount Pleasant for a spot in the grand final.
B-grade
Mount Pleasant edged Huntly 45-42 in another close lower grades qualifying final.
The Mounts now play minor premier White Hills next for a spot in the grand final.
B-reserve
The Mounts are out of contention in the B reserve finals series after being eliminated by a solitary goal against Heathcote, 47-46.
Lockington finished as the division’s minor premier, and after a week off will take on Huntly in a grand final qualifier.
Under-17
Lockington were well beaten by White Hills in a qualifying final, going down 54-35.
The Cats will face Elmore in an elimination semi-final next after the Bloods progressed with a 36-29 victory over Leitchville-Gunbower.
Under-15
Lockington will also be represented in the second week of the under-15 finals, progressing to a second qualifying final after it defeated Colbinabbin 46-28.
The Cats now face White Hills for a place in the grand final, while Colbo was condemned to an elimination semi-final against Mount Pleasant.
The Mounts did just enough to progress, narrowly defeating Heathcote 40-38 in an elimination final.
Under-13
Three local clubs will feature in the second week of the under-13 finals series.
Lockington finished as minor premier, and will face Leitchville-Gunbower in a grand final qualifier after Mount Pleasant lost to the Bombers 22-19.
The Mounts will now be up against Elmore in a semi-final after the Bloods knocked out Colbinabbin with a 23-16 win.
