The Bombers started their day soundly, goaling nine times in the first quarter and against most other teams that would’ve been competitive. But unfortunately, the Grasshoppers piled on 22 in the opening period to take a double-digit lead.
Colbo’s defence held true, which stopped L-G from making significant inroads, goaling just six more times in the lead-up to the major break.
Meanwhile, the Grasshoppers continued their reign, outperforming themselves in the second quarter with a whopping 25-goal effort, 32 was the difference at the major break.
The Bombers produced their best stretch of attacking play, finding the back of the net 12 times in the third quarter, but it was not enough to catch Colbo’s staggering lead, which ballooned to 45 with a period still to go.
With the hope of a win already lost, L-G finished its day as it started, with a nine-goal quarter to wrap things up.
The Grasshoppers matched their second quarter total down the stretch, bagging another 25 goals to finish their day just shy of triple figures.
The final score was L-G 36 to Colbinabbin 96.
Lockington-Bamawm United vs Heathcote
Lockington-Bamawm United’s A-grade netballers are still looking for their elusive first victory after falling to fellow struggler Heathcote in round four.
In what was anticipated to be a close contest between contemporaries, it was anything but in the first quarter, with the Saints darting out to 14 goals in their first effort of the match.
Meanwhile, the Cats could only manage five goals in the opening period.
Both sides added 10 goals to their respective total in the second quarter, with the deficit staying at nine goals at the major break.
LBU outscored Heathcote in the third term, goaling 11 times, but a steady 10-goal period from the Saints meant they held an eight-goal lead heading into the final stretch.
With an attainable win in sight, the Cats could only add eight more goals in the fourth quarter, with the consistency of Heathcote proving to be the deciding factor.
LBU fell 12 goals shy of jump-starting its season, with the Saints using the match as a way to get their first win of the 2025 campaign.
The final score was LBU 32 to Heathcote 44.
Elmore vs Mount Pleasant
It was a clash at the top-end of the table between Elmore and Mt Pleasant, with the Bloods getting the upper hand to level out their season.
Elmore escaped with the victory against the higher ranked team, taking the Mighty Mounts down 49 to 32.
The Bloods will do battle with Colbinabbin next week in an interesting test to see where they’re at, while Mt Pleasant will look to jag a win against North Bendigo at Toolleen Recreation Reserve.
