Travelling to Elmore Recreation Reserve to face the fourth-placed Bloods, the Bombers couldn’t get over the top of the hosts, being downed by 20 at the full-time siren.
The final score was 56 to 36.
This leaves L-G (2-5) on the outside looking in on the finals picture as we approach the halfway point of the season, while securing Elmore (5-3) a top-four berth for at least a week ahead of the Bloods’ bye.
The Bombers will look for redemption this week when they go up against their closest contemporaries in 2025, North Bendigo.
Lockington-Bamawm United v North Bendigo
Speaking of the Bulldogs, they defeated current wooden-spooner Lockington-Bamawm United, which will have one more chance to get on the board in the first half of the season.
The Cats could scarcely counter anything North Bendigo threw at them, falling short by 33 goals at North Bendigo Oval court one.
The final score was 24 to 57.
LBU will have a tough bout in round nine, returning home to face third-placed White Hills at Lockington Recreation Reserve.
Colbinabbin v Huntly
It would take some looking to find a hotter title favourite in domestic netball at this stage of the season than Colbinabbin, which is a game away from a dominant sweep of the league over the first cycle of fixtures.
Last week’s opponent, Huntly, has been no slouch this season, coming in 4-2, but was swept aside by the dominant Hoppers 69-36 on the Hawks’ home court.
Colbo has scored significant wins over some higher table ‘rivals’ while obliterating the lower sides to boast an incredible percentage of 263.29 seven games in.
The last domino to potentially fall will be Mt Pleasant, which comes off the bye to visit Colbo this week, while Huntly will travel to Heathcote.
White Hills v Heathcote
The Demons did what was needed against Heathcote, sweeping aside the lower table Saints 64-33.
Now in third, White Hills has a contest with another struggler, LBU, on the horizon, while Heathcote hosts Huntly.
