Despite similar match-ups, interesting results ensued, with an opportunity for players to implement any tactical improvements that had developed since their last start.
The previous tie between second-placed Mitre 10 and third-placed Legal Eagles saw Mitre 10 victorious by three sets.
The Eagles were out to reverse their fortunes by winning, and win they did.
Legal Eagles won 19 sets and 159 games against Mitre 10, 12 sets and 134 games.
Of the eight tie-break sets played, the Eagles won five.
A significant number of players proved capable of winning their three sets, with James Sandford, Riley Chaplin, Braith Gow, Maggie Camilleri and Edward Bliss doing so for the Eagles and Georgia Denny and Steve Todd winning three for Mitre 10.
Legal Eagles led the match by one set, 5-4, after the first round of sets, and the second round by two sets, 7-5.
The Eagles ran away in the last round, winning it 7-3 and so were finally winners by seven sets.
In the other tie, Peppin Planners were totally dominant against Deni Newsagency the previous week, but Deni Newsagency sprung a surprise upset early last week to win the first round of sets, 5-4.
Unfortunately for them, their good form didn’t last for the rest of the evening, but it was a much closer affair against ladder-leaders Peppin Planners.
Peppin won the tie, 19 sets and 146 games to Deni Newsagency’s 12 sets and 121 games.
This week only four of the Peppin team were three set winners - Jack McGrillen, Graeme Murphy, Hamish Baker and Rob Brown.
Charlie Eastman was the only three set winner for Deni Newsagency.
The Newsagency team looked better this week, with the lawn courts in great condition.
