It was a chilly 10am start and the Diggers got off the mark quickly with Rod Reid’s team of Peter Harris, Chrissy Frampton and Jim Jennings not allowing their opposition to score until the sixth end with one shot.
The ditch rink was no problem for the RSL foursome as they reached the 19th end before Rochester got to double digits.
The Diggers scored a six on the 20th end and took the win, 26 shots to 11.
On rink three there was a similar result on the card from president Niels Hilton’s team of Lyn Hardcastle, Jo Chick and Craig Taylor.
Their opposition didn’t score until the seventh end, that being a five after losing five shots on the previous end.
The Diggers replied with a four on the next end, only to have Rochester pick up a five again on the 11th end.
For the next 10 ends, however, the Diggers only allowed Rochy four more shots to finish on 16 shots to RSL Diggers 32.
The biggest win of the day was Ron Marchetti’s rink with current club champion Miro Peterman leading Archie Webster and Neville Austin.
They did not allow their opposition to reach double digits, and over six ends only gave them six shots, and on the 13th end a three.
The Diggers won 14 ends for the game with a total score of 35 shots to 9. This took the Diggers overall win to a monster 57 shots: RSL Diggers 93 shots to Rochester 36.
The huge win and three rinks up gave the Diggers 16 points and keeps them at fourth place on the Division 2 ladder with a total of 32 points.
