The match was a tale of two quarters, as the Grasshoppers managed to get on top of the Bombers in the second and third term despite some resistance in the first and fourth.
Goal scoring was difficult to come by for L-G, who couldn’t kick any more than one a quarter. However, Colbo appeared to be in the same boat in the opening period.
With one goal the difference at quarter-time, the Grasshoppers got on to the hosts in the second term, kicking 4.4 while limiting the Bombers to a sole maximum to take a 28-point lead at half-time.
Colbo bagged three more goals and four behinds after the main break to extend its lead, while L-G added just one goal to its tally.
The game stagnated in the fourth quarter in what turned into a dog fight, with the Grasshoppers getting the only goal down the stretch while the Bombers kicked one behind.
The final score was L-G 3.2 (20) to Colbinabbin 10.10 (70).
Alex Carr bagged five goals for Colbo, with Nick Knight providing a nice cameo with three majors.
Carr was joined by Daniel Hill, Nathan Basile, Jack Lear, Matthew Riordan and Connor Aldous among the Grasshoppers’ best.
After a bye in round one, Colbinabbin has gone undefeated in its three contests so far and will look to extend its winning streak when it travels to North Bendigo to take on the Bulldogs in round five.
