Seymour product Casey Adamson took to the court for her Giants debut at the weekend, with the Lions 2025 A-grade coach donning the orange dress in 2026 after signing her first full-time SSN contract in the off-season.
There was a huge contingent of current Lions on hand to show their support too, with a throng of Seymour players making the trip west to celebrate the achievements of one of their own.
A full-time contract at the highest level has been a long time coming for Adamson, with the 28-year-old having spent time with the now defunct Collingwood side as a training partner in 2022 and 2023, making her SSN debut as a top-up player, before a serious knee injury cruelled her 2024 campaign.
Last year saw a return to her best, with a standout campaign for the Boroondara Express in the Victorian Netball League yielding a league MVP award, a feat which the Giants couldn’t ignore and they promptly presented her with a contract.
The star midcourter wasted no time in seeing the action for the Giants either, named at wing defence in the starting line-up and playing 50 per cent game time, although the Giants ultimately went down to a new-look Mavericks side 52-61.
Adamson will next be in action this Sunday at 3pm as the Giants host reigning premiers Melbourne Vixens at Qudos Bank Arena.
Seymour guns on show in VNL opener
A trio of current Seymour guns made a bright start to the Victorian Netball League on Saturday, with the Bendigo Strikers and Boroondara Express playing a curtain-raiser to the SSN match between the Mavericks and Giants.
The Express featured Lions Sarah Szczykulski and Ally Black, but it was the Strikers and 2026 Seymour A-grade coach Elle McDonald that took the opening round honours, with McDonald captaining Bendigo to a 51-36 win in the championship division contest.
There were a number of other GVL talents on show, too, with Rochester’s Teal Hocking turning out for the Strikers alongside McDonald, while Tatura’s Elsie Boyer captained the under-23 Strikers side to a 57-46 victory.
