Mystery surrounds the landing of a police helicopter by the side of a road in Greater Shepparton in the early hours of Saturday, April 4.
A witness told The News he saw the helicopter on the ground on the grass beside the road in Poplar Ave, Orrvale, about 3.25am.
The witness also said some roads in the area had been blocked off to traffic by police vehicles at the time.
He also said there was a large police presence in the area.
It is unusual for police helicopters to land, with them usually only used to keep an eye on things from the air.
When asked about it, a police media spokesperson would not confirm if the helicopter had landed.
The spokesperson said police located a stolen vehicle dumped at the intersection of Popular Ave and Doyles Rd in Shepparton about 1.30am.
The Police Air Wing and Dog Squad searched the surrounding area for occupants, who were not found, and the investigation is ongoing, the spokesperson said.
The vehicle was stolen in Shepparton on April 3.
