The brains behind Carlton North regional Indian-specialising restaurant Enter Via Laundry, Ms Raichura made her publishing debut this year with The Food of Bharat: A Chef’s Journey through India’s Rich Culinary History.
“I have always been in the process of learning more about my food and my country and the heritage and just its evolution,” she said.
“(The book) talks about different eras of Indian history.
“So, it starts from the Vedic or pre-Vedic — which is the oldest recorded information — and then it makes its way to trade and migration in India, then it talks about the Mughal invasion as well as then the colonisation.
“The last chapter talks about the food, which is now what I cook at Enter Via Laundry and what my learnings have brought me to.”
The menu at Enter Via Laundry showcases the diversity of Indian cuisine, also blending native Australian ingredients for a unique dining experience.
Audiences can expect insights into Ms Raichura’s life and culinary experience at the show.
“I think it would be quite an honest conversation that we would be having,” Ms Raichura said.
“I’m doing three talks over three days, which is great ... to talk about my restaurant, my recipes, my heritage and where I am now.
“How ingredients find a new home and similarities and differences and make our journey of calling Australia home, and how some Indigenous ingredients have a big role to play.”
Ms Raichura will be involved in three shows at the Bendigo Writers Festival, including in Elmore on Friday, August 15 in conversation with former City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Jennifer Alden.
She is looking forward to connecting with audiences face-to-face through the festival.
“In this day and age of us all scrolling and kind of looking at our screens, I think it’s nice to come out of the house and see the authors or people behind some of their creations,” Ms Raichura said.
“You never know, there might be similar struggles or similar wins that we could hear from each other.
“That might be a bit refreshing and a bit human.”
The free show will be at Elmore library at noon on Friday, August 15.
