The fictional British boarding school of magic is the setting for the first six books in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
While the characters were advised by school principal Liz Trewick to keep their wands in the classroom following the parade there was no lack of spells being cast in the playground.
The Harry Potter series revolved around the lives of Harry, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all who had representation among the 10 or so students who depicted characters from the book.
There are eight books in the series, which have been somewhat required reading among senior primary schoolers — ranging from the 1997 Sorcerer’s Stone release to the 2016 Cursed Child book.
Harry Potter, however, was not the sole character depicted in the popular book week parade as fairtytale characters took centre stage.
This year’s Book Week theme was Dreaming With Eyes Open, continuing a history that started in 1945.
Since 1987 there has been a national theme, chosen and voted on by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.
More photos from the St Joseph’s parade are on page eight today, while next week’s edition will feature photos from the Rochester Primary School parade — being held on Thursday morning.
