All 59 finalists’ works are on display at SAM until November 1 as part of the prize’s exclusive Victorian regional tour leg.
Finalists Peter Wegner, Natasha Bieniek, Huan Ford and Sean Layh will deliver in-gallery talks and take questions from visitors, offering insight into their creative practices and the process of creating portraits for the prize.
SAM head of engagement Gabriella Calandro said the exhibition was a significant event for the region.
“It’s wonderful to see the Archibald Prize 2026 now alive in Shepparton, bringing audiences from near and far to the Goulburn Valley region,” she said.
“Our programs are an opportunity to go beyond simply viewing the portraits, providing art lovers the chance to dive deep into the artists’ processes, have creative conversations and enjoy the unique experiences we have to offer.”
The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 16 with Bar SAM on the rooftop terrace from 5pm to 8pm.
Tickets are $16 per person and include a drink on arrival, with additional drinks and bar snacks available for purchase.
The event is strictly 18 and over.
Artist talks run across the Saturday and Sunday, with illustrated lectures and gallery meet-and-greets scheduled throughout both days.
Tickets are $100 for a weekend pass, $50 for a single day pass, or $16 for an individual talk.
