Heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, is expected.
Areas of rainfall and embedded thunderstorms are forecast to develop during the morning and increase in the afternoon, continuing into the evening.
Six-hourly rainfall totals between 40 and 70mm are possible.
The storm is expected to be a slow-moving system from west to east.
The advice message issued by the SES is also for Euroa, Shepparton, Bendigo, Mansfield, Warragul, Traralgon and Greater Melbourne.
The SES encourages people to stay informed and be aware of potential hazards caused by severe weather, including floodwater, debris and fallen trees.
There is also an increased risk of landslides and debris movement in fire-affected areas.
If flash flooding occurs, the water can be very deep, rise quickly and move fast, so people should avoid flood-prone areas.
If driving conditions are dangerous, motorists are urged to safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater.
Those in impacted regions should park their vehicles undercover and away from trees, stay inside if conditions appear dangerous, contact family members and neighbours to ensure they are aware of the situation, and avoid walking in burnt areas or along river beds and gullies immediately after rainfall.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated during peak periods, so travellers should consider their need to be out during this time.
