Lancaster Primary School has received almost $50,000 to upgrade its oval and cricket pitch through the Capital Works Fund.
The upgrades will include levelling the school oval, fixing the drainage and upgrading the cricket pitch.
The work is expected to begin early this year and with an estimated completion time around April.
The Capital Works Fund supports projects that upgrade the condition, character or inclusiveness of Victorian schools.
Combined with last year's $500,000 infrastructure upgrades investment in the school’s administration and learning spaces, Lancaster Primary is experiencing its most significant modernisation in decades.
Speaking to the Free Press last year, principal Trish Perry said getting the funding to begin modernising the century old school has been a long time coming.
“It’s nice because we haven’t had money to spend on this place in a while,” she said.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes and Education Minister Ben Carroll agreed the project would ensure local students had the facilities they needed to learn.
“We know that small projects make a big difference, whether it’s providing inclusive places to eat lunch and socialise, upgrading toilets or ensuring open spaces inspire kids to be active outdoors,” Mr Carroll said.
