Preparations are complete for this weekend’s 50 year reunion of the 1970-1975 Finley High School students.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
On Friday, former students will gather from 5pm at the Tuppal Hotel to reacquaint themselves after so many years, with the ‘70s music hits playing in the background.
Saturday sees a walk through the High School at noon, followed by a dinner at Finley Golf Club starting from 5pm.
Former teachers Geoff McNeil, Di Krasowski and John and Dianne Marshall will be attending.
On Sunday, Finley Bowling Club will entertain the group with breakfast and bowls. Then there will be dinner at Hong Lock for the ‘Stayers’.
It is sure to be a great weekend of memories and laughter as many stories are relived and exaggerated!
There will be group photos taken at each event.
Sixty attendees have booked for the dinner; for late bookings or further information, please contact Andrew Richardson on 0407 503 978 or Malcolm McClelland on 0404 019 207.
It will be interesting to see how everyone goes remembering names as some would not have seen each other for 50 years,
Some of the ex-students attending include Ross Ball, Denise Pohlner, Roger Scutt, Tony Tinkler, Fiona Powell, Elizabeth Atkinson, Shelly Hawkins, Lindsay Donkin, Rob Hawkins, Jane Wardle, Stuart Lee, George Scriven, Johnathon Taylor, Doug Enbom, David Quanchi, Sally Fegan, Stan King, Ian Bryce, Andrea McDonald, Leanne Poustie, Jeff Seamer, Jim Gastin and Debbie McColl. Also, Gerard O’Neill, an old Finley name that locals will remember.
Debbie McColl has done a spool of photos to run through the television at the golf club during dinner, which is bound to be very interesting.
The whole weekend should prove to be a great walk down memory lane for everyone attending.

Finley RSL Sub-branch members would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to the very successful street stall held last Friday.
Organisers were pleased to catch up with supporters Steven Zimmerman and Margaret Davis, who were in town for a few days to visit Steven’s father - local veteran Glen Zimmerman.
Sam Middlebrook was the lucky winner of the raffle and was delighted to take home the meat voucher.
Finley can be very proud of the way the community continues to support so many local organisations.
The purpose of the Sub-branch fundraising is to support the needs of serving and ex-service members, including the sick, aged, wounded, and those in need, and to assist their families.

The members of Finley Art Network have now completed the nativity set for The Anglican Church.
Many hours of stripping, sanding, undercoating and more has gone into this project, and the responsible members are proud of the result they achieved.
They also hope the town will be very proud of the new look for Christmas.
The master painter was Dru Morgan.
Members of the community are reminded of the open day on November 22. This will be Gail Jolly’s Exhibition.
Morning and afternoon tea will be available at a cost of $5.
The group is very proud of the projects presented by the members.
Anyone who would like a few hours of total relaxation, or discover a talent they didn’t think they had, should consider attending. Classes can also be organised for beginners.
Opening hours at the Gallery are Tuesdays from 1.30pm and Saturdays from 10.30am. New members are most welcome.

A group of Finley ladies had a very interesting trip to Castlemaine recently, to attend the art business Shades of Gray, which is only open for a short period once a year.
This was not the first visit for some of the group.
As garden enthusiasts, there are already some delightful examples in gardens around Finley.
Glenice Martin, Heather Thomas, Val Hand and Mary Rourke took advantage of the trip to also visit Bupa House & Gardens, The Mill and Mica Grange Gardens.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
Did you know that, if detected early, more than 65 per cent of lung cancers can be successfully treated?
Australia has a Lung Cancer Screening Program.
If you are aged between 50-70 with a smoking history, you may be eligible for this program.
Lung cancer screening can detect up to 70 per cent of lung cancers in the early stages. The earlier cancer is found, the better the chances of treating it.
Talk to your doctor or health care provider to see if you are eligible for the screening.
For more information, go to www.health.gov.au/lung or email Finley LHAC at finleylhac@gmail.com.
