Record turnout for Rochy’s Show and Shine

Rochester Motoring Club president Merv Wild said despite other car events happening at the same time across the region, it didn’t take away from the success of their own.

“We were a bit concerned because there was an event on in Echuca at the same time and also a truck show on in Deniliquin .... but it was all absolutely fantastic,” he said.

“I was talking to a couple of the judges, and they said (there) was so much variety and so many really good vehicles, they were really impressed with the vehicles.

“Everybody was really pleased with the setup, all the market stall people were happy and Lions did a great job with their catering. All in all, a really good day.”

Stallholders for the community market arrived bright and early on the day to set up shop, ready to treat visitors to a range of local produce, handmade crafts and more.

From 8am, entrants started to roll in with vehicles of all shapes and sizes to take their places at the Rochester Racecourse and Recreation Reserve.

While there were many high-quality vehicles out for show, the rare sight of a 19th-century steam car from Gippsland was among the highlights of the day.

While motorcycle numbers were down this year, the standard remained high, with one standout bike valued at around $150,000.

Throughout the day, judges made their rounds, inspecting the array of trucks, motorcycles and cars to select the most outstanding vehicles for awards.

As spectators made their way around to the vehicles and market stalls, musician Jefferson Smith kept the tunes flowing with a mix of ’60s and ’70s music.

The Rochester Lions Club was also on site to keep the hunger pains at bay, offering food and beverages to the hungry crowds.
