In its place, shiny, new signs are being installed thanks to a grant from Campaspe Shire Council.
Over years of being exposed to the elements, the images and text had faded.
“They’re just being replaced because they’re all getting a little bit old and hard to read,” committee member Paul Poort said.
The signage provides information about wildlife, architecture and the history of Rochester, placed across town, particularly by the Campaspe River.
Mr Poort first put the signs together around 12 years ago with help from the Rochester Historical Society.
“I got all these (photos) off the historical society,” he said.
“Bird one, sale yards one, water tower one.
“I think I actually took that photo (of the sale yards) when I was helping on the water tower.”
With the $800 grant, the informative signs and smaller, way-finding signs are being replaced, and a bench seat will be installed at the end of Mackay St.
