A brand new all-abilities public amenity block is set to be installed at Lake Eppalock's Moorabbee Foreshore Recreation Area — bringing back essential infrastructure to one of the region's most-loved outdoor destinations.
Delivered by Goulburn-Murray Water, the project will include a prefabricated amenity building, a self-contained wastewater system, upgraded parking, new connecting pathways and a range of dedicated accessibility improvements.
The new building replaces the ageing toilet block that once sat on council land, which was decommissioned and demolished by the Greater Bendigo City Council in February 2024. The replacement facility will be built directly on G-MW's own freehold land.
G-MW general manager water storage services Jon McKeown highlighted the benefits of restoring facilities to the site.
“This project will restore an important public facility at the lake and demonstrates our commitment to improving recreation facilities for visitors while protecting the environment around our storages,” he said.
“It’s particularly great to see the project will deliver a number of accessibility upgrades at the recreation area.
“That includes access ramps and paths everyone can use, as well as an all-ability cubicle and several unisex ambulant cubicles.”
The area is well used throughout the year, attracting an estimated 430 visitors on each summer weekend day, with a steady stream of anglers continuing to make the most of the lake across the cooler winter months.
Installation work is scheduled to kick off on November 9, with the full construction expected to be completed within a week.
While some parts of the recreation area may have limited access during construction, visitors can take comfort in knowing the Moorabbee boat ramp will remain open throughout the works.
“Visitors should follow any on-site signage and directions while the works are under way,” Mr McKeown said.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience while these important works take place.”
