Funded by Lockmore Financial Services, the project forms part of a broader initiative to bring public art to the three Community Bank branches in Lockington, Elmore and Rochester.
Following submissions from a range of artists, Melbourne-based artist Jimmy Dvate was selected to bring the mural to life.
Mr Dvate worked closely with Lockington residents to ensure the final design reflected the community’s identity and stories.
“All these images, apart from the magpie are based on photos locals sent in,” he said
“It gives them more of a sense of ownership of it. It's not just an artist coming in, painting and leaving. It creates a bit more of community involvement.
“For me, I'll be here for two weeks or whatever, and then I'll leave, but these guys live with it every day... so it has to be something that they can be proud of.”
After months of refining the design, Mr Dvate began work on the mural on Friday, March 20.
The final design features elements that capture Lockington’s character, including irrigation channels, cattle, canola fields, sunsets and magpies.
Working with an assistant, he spent four days completing the main sections of the mural before finishing the finer details on his own.
Despite windy and wet conditions, the project was completed within a week, with Mr Dvate working long days from 8am to 6pm.
