Mr Hosking aims to succeed long-serving State Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh, who has represented the electorate since it was formed from the former Rodney and Swan Hill seats in 2014.
Following consultations with his family and discussions with Mr Walsh himself, Mr Hosking submitted his nomination for National Party pre-selection on Wednesday, April 1.
The move marks a significant shift from agricultural advocacy to the political arena for the well-known regional leader.
Speaking with Country News, he said he would be advocating to bring Murray Plains back into the forefront of Victoria and make sure agricultural industries don’t get left behind on the chamber floor.
“What I'm hearing from our community members is ... they feel a little bit neglected (from the Victorian Government) or a bit overlooked — maybe even taken for granted,” he said.
“I want to change that.”
The Nationals are yet to announce the final date for the preselection vote.
