Of the 320 first-year students awarded scholarships nationally, nine hailed from Rochester and surrounding districts.
Rochester resident Oakley Tarrant, who is studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University in Bendigo, is among this year’s recipients.
A former school captain, 2025 valedictorian and Young Citizen of the Year, Oakley said the scholarship would help him remain connected to his community while studying.
“To receive this scholarship from the Community Bank in my local area is incredible,” he said.
“It’s helping me get my physio degree while staying connected to my town, my work and my football team. It’s a huge help and I’m very grateful for their support.”
This year’s scholarships are valued at more than $1.6 million nationally, with the nine awarded locally worth a combined $24,000.
The funding will help recipients cover expenses such as accommodation, travel, course fees and study materials.
Alongside Oakley, other local students are pursuing studies across a range of disciplines including science, occupational therapy and nursing.

Community Bank Elmore, Lockington and Rochester executive officer Lauren Ross said the program delivered long-term benefits for the region.
“When our locals pursue further study, our whole community benefits," she said.
“The skills and knowledge they gain don’t just shape their own futures, they strengthen our region when they return home with new ideas, experience and expertise.”
Since 2006, the bank’s scholarship program, overseen by its charitable arm, the Bendigo Bank Community Foundation, has provided more than $16.6 million in support to more than 2600 students.
Bendigo Bank chair Vicki Carter said the bank was proud to support the next generation of leaders.
“We understand the challenges many students, particularly those from regional and rural areas, face when pursuing further education,” she said.
“Our program is a direct investment in their potential and a testament to our belief that supporting education is fundamental to building strong and resilient communities.”
