First stop for travellers was the Docklands pier, for a three-hour cruise up the Maribyrnong River on Melbourne Tramboat Cruises.
The family-operated business operates a boat built to replicate a tram, with many of its original fixtures originating from Bendigo.
As visitors travelled up and back down the river, they heard about the purpose and the history of the many notable sites, including a sugar refinery, a fuel tanker, the Heavenly Queen Temple and Flemington Racecourse, all delivered with humour and the occasional anecdote.
Ellie Chiswell was used as a model for how to safely wear a flotation device in case the need arose. Ellie was rewarded with a lollipop for playing her part so well and with good humour.

A stop was made so everyone could visit Anglers Tavern, which is regularly flooded by the Maribyrnong River.
The tavern has undergone refurbishment and is a beautiful venue. It was here an entrée of garlic bread and lunch, washed down with some refreshments, was enjoyed by all.
Once back on board for the return trip, everyone enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee, having already been treated to a beautiful morning tea previously.
Several brave souls ventured up on to the top of the boat on the way back, only to find that they had to duck seriously as they went under the bridges.
Once the day on the water concluded, it was time to head home, all arriving home very tired but grateful for another day of fun and friendship with Probus.
