The CWA Night Roses, the town’s newest Country Women’s Association branch, has sprung to life in spectacular, petal-flying fashion — and members have wasted no time collecting a few shiny accolades along the way.
Formed in April 2025, this lively after-hours crew has added a splash of colour and a dash of mischief to the local CWA garden.
It’s a group of women coming together of an evening to connect with creative hands, fierce community spirit and a healthy hit of cheeky humour.
The Night Roses have quickly become the ‘new kids on the bloom’ — and they’re proving fast that they’re far more than just tea and scones.
Their rise has been nothing short of impressive, now with 19 paid members and expressions of interest coming in left, right and centre.
Despite being newcomers, the Night Roses bloomed their way to success at the Moira CWA Group AGM, snagging multiple awards that showcased their talents in baking, craft, community involvement, and even creative writing.
The group proudly took home two awards. One for the vibrant end-of-year secretary’s report written by member Lani Jane, and another for the shorter, playful secretary’s poem penned by member Desley Byers.
The group was created to provide an evening option for local women who want to be involved in the CWA but cannot attend daytime meetings due to work, family or other commitments.
From planning community events to swapping recipes, crafting up a storm, and sharing plenty of laughs, the Night Roses are quickly building a reputation for being vibrant, welcoming and delightfully mischievous.
Alongside their monthly meetings, the Night Roses also host ‘Social Sundays’, a relaxed monthly dinner where women can come together to connect, share a meal and enjoy good conversation.
Branch president Claire Grellman said the group focused on friendship, creativity and community involvement, creating a welcoming space for women of all ages to connect and contribute locally.
“Because one thing is already clear, these roses don’t just bloom — they bloom big,” she said.
The Benalla CWA Night Roses meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start at the CWA Hall, Bridge St East, Benalla.
Women interested in joining are warmly invited to come along or contact the team via admin@cwanightrosesbenalla.com.
