A capacity crowd packed the Deniliquin Town Hall on Tuesday night for Anh Do ‘The Happiest Refugee’ tour.

The popular comedian is travelling throughout the nation with his live show, which mixes comedy and his amazing life story.

The award winning artist and author, who has won national awards and appeared on numerous television shows including his own ‘Anh’s Brush With Fame’, gave a revealing and inspiration account of his life, from Vietnam to a successful life in Australia.

It was greeted with loud applause from an appreciative local audience.

Green with envy

Deniliquin Golf Club, with the support of Edward River Council, hosted another successful Pro-Am tournament on Tuesday.

Professional golfers joined local amateurs on the picturesque local course in glorious spring weather, despite a slight breeze.

It is easy to take facilities in our backyard for granted, but the professionals applauded and recognised the quality of the local golf course and its location, just a stone’s throw from the centre of town.

Many of the visiting golfers travel extensively, and are acutely aware there are many communities that would dearly love such a magnificent course, which locals are able to enjoy year round.

Marathon swim

We were intrigued by a story from the Arthur Rylah Institute, telling the story of ‘Arnie’ the Murray cod which surprised its scientists by swimming 860 kms upstream, including the initial 760 kms in less than two months.

The marathon swim, which began near the SA border, occurred in 2022 and scientists believe it was made possible because barriers had been removed along the Murray River to let floodwaters pass through.

It’s a shame governments don’t put more effort into removing European carp from the Murray and other rivers, as it would lead to a lot more Murray cod swimming along the system.

Navorina Ladies Auxiliary open garden

Clarification around the day of the Navorina ladies Auxiliary open garden which will be held this Sunday, November 2, not Saturday as was put in the article on Tuesday.

A relaxing afternoon fundraiser will be held at Margaret and Nigel Wettenhall’s garden in Yalama, along the Cobb Highway next to the Hill’s Plain Fire Station.

With entry at $20 including a light lunch and refreshments. All proceeds will support Navorina Nursing Home, enhancing care and comfort for its residents.
