A Healthy Ageing Expo is coming to Rochester, responding to a growing need for people to stay active and connected as they move through life.
Rochester Community House is inviting you to explore local services, community groups and support networks at the Shire Hall on October 22, from 10am to 2pm.
Community House manager Amanda Logie said the function would bring a range of local organisations together to inform attendees on services available to them.
“Our aim is to encourage and assist people with staying connected, independent and active while they age,” she said.
“We believe it is important to bring services to our community so they can be well-informed and make decisions which will benefit their health and wellbeing.”
Visitors can speak directly to service providers, ask questions and find out how to access support or get involved with local community groups — whether for themselves or a loved one.
Confirmed organisations on health and wellbeing include My Aged Care, Dementia Australia, Bendigo Health Carers Support, Country Care Mobility, REDHS and the Rochester Primary Care Centre.
Social connection sits at the heart of the expo, offering a welcoming space for older residents — especially those who may be living alone — to meet others and feel part of their community.
“Isolation can be very detrimental to health and wellbeing,” Ms Logie said.
The expo is open to everyone — whether you are attending for yourself, supporting an ageing parent or grandparent, or caring for a friend. Carers are especially encouraged to come along.
Country Care Mobility will have equipment on display, while other social and wellbeing activities will be available to try, with light refreshments provided for visitors to sit down for a cuppa and a chat.
Ms Logie said she hoped visitors would leave with a better understanding of the support available in their community.
“We would like them to leave the expo feeling like they are engaged and connected to their community and have the knowledge and resources to support either their own ageing or to support a loved one,” she said.
