Michael Blow faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court from a video link at Echuca on Wednesday afternoon.
The 25-year-old was dressed in a green T-shirt and remained silent throughout the proceedings.
The court heard Blow “had significant mental health issues” and was overdue for an injection of his anti-psychotics, as well as potentially withdrawing from the drug ice.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives had arrested the 25-year-old in Rochester in the morning and he was charged with three counts of robbery, as well as possessing a drug of dependence (ice).
The man allegedly robbed a bank in Bendigo last Monday, February 3, the next day moving onto a Rochester service station and a bank in Gillies St, where staff were threatened and cash stolen.
Police believe he stole an amount between $200 and $2000 and acted alone.
Detective Sergeant Barry Gray of Campaspe CIU said threats were made in relation to possessing a weapon but no weapon was found.
“It was no doubt traumatic for the people involved,” he said.
“Obviously the welfare of the victims is paramount in our minds.”
Blow will reappear before Echuca Magistrates’ Court on March 3.
