Jacob Dedman’s journey with photography started early — and it’s been a constant part of his life ever since.
Starting Digital Journey Photography at just 13, Jacob has built a diverse portfolio that captures what he loves most: vibrant landscapes, timeless cars, and everyday moments that often go unnoticed.

Being named junior runner-up for Australian Photographer of the Year in 2021 was a proud milestone, but for Jacob, it’s really about the passion and connection behind every shot.
Based in Tatura, Jacob’s style comes from a simple but powerful idea: finding the special in the ordinary.
“I’m drawn to moments and scenes that people usually walk past without a second thought,” he said.
“I want to show what makes those moments worth noticing.”
That mindset has taken him far — including a memorable 2024 trip to a tulip farm near Seattle, where Jacob managed to capture a white-crowned sparrow gathering nesting material.
It was a shot the farm’s owner had tried to get for years but never could — something Jacob achieved within hours.
“Terry, our tour guide and photographer, told us, ‘I’m not just saying this, but Jacob is the best photographer I’ve had on any of my tours.’ That meant a lot to us,” mum Cheryl said.
Jacob’s gear of choice includes two Canon EOS R5 cameras, giving him the flexibility to shoot everything from wide sweeping scenes to tight details, thanks to his carefully built collection of Canon’s top RF lenses.
Recently, he’s added a Sony FX30 from Sony’s Cinema Line to capture video — a creative hobby he enjoys especially during car shoots, even though photography remains his main focus.
On the car photography side, Jacob looks up to creatives like Alexander McInnes — The Car Creative — whose ability to capture not just cars but the feeling of the moment has inspired Jacob’s own approach.
Jacob also finds inspiration in legends like Ansel Adams.
“He could see the final image in his mind before he even took the shot,” Jacob said.
“I try to do the same — look for that light or moment that makes something stand out.”
From local car scenes like MOVE and Southern Rod & Custom in Shepparton to weddings, nature walks, and international adventures, Jacob’s work is about telling stories with every frame — focusing on the beauty many people overlook.
Whether it’s a bird, a car, or a perfect beam of light — if it’s worth noticing, Jacob’s probably already found a way to capture it.
