Two years ago, Talisha began work experience at Journey Early Learning Echuca as part of Vivid’s School Leaver Employment Support (SLES) Program. A passionate Echuca Special School graduate, Talisha discovered a love for helping children learn through play. While traditional childcare qualifications weren’t accessible, Journey took an innovative step: designing a customised employment pathway that allowed Talisha to become a subcontractor delivering weekly activities.
What started as a placement has now grown into scheduled sessions and the creation of Talisha’s very own micro business — name coming soon! Talisha brings joyful, high-energy experiences to the children each week, from block building to singing and dancing.
“I love doing activities with the kids… they love building blocks,” she said. “I’m an entertainer. I’m ready to go.”
Vivid Employment Pathway Coordinator Mark Stocken said Talisha’s journey is a first for the organisation — a pioneering subcontractor model within SLES. With support in planning, invoicing and access to Vivid’s first in-house business coach, Talisha is set up for long-term success.
“This has not been done before at Vivid,” Mark said. “It’s a benchmark for others and shows the different ways employment can look.”
Journey Early Learning’s Centre Manager Leanne Mathers said Talisha brings “bright and enthusiastic energy” to the centre each week, and they’re proud to help her passion flourish.
